Christian Rock

For too long has rock/metal music been associated with the negative side of life. Of course with bands such as Aerosmith, Guns N' Roses, AC/DC and almost all other 80's rock/metal bands living a lifestyle of "Sex, Drugs and Rock N' Roll", its not that hard to imagine.

Other mainstream bands such as Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Marilyn Manson and The Eagles even go as far as to incorporate satanic worship into their music.

But as of this day and age, a new breed of rock music enthusiasts have emerged. This being the Christian society. Many new mainstream bands such as Lifehouse, P.O.D. and Swtichfoot have considered themselves to be Christian Rock bands.

These are the bands who are out to clear the bad image of rock music. They oppose the lifestyle of "Sex, Drugs and Rock N' Roll" and instead promote good Christian moral values. Though some bands may have evangelical intentions, most bands are just Christian guys who share a love for rock music. An example of such bands are Creed, Evanescence and As I Lay Dying. They do not claim to be "Christian bands", but they openly profess their faith through their music. This does not necessarily mean that their music is spiritual or has direct connection to God or Jesus though of course they are heavily influenced by their faith.

"I'm not sure what the difference is between five Christians playing in a band and a Christian band. If you truly believe something, then it should affect every area of your life. All five of us are Christians. I believe that change should start with me first, and as a result, our lyrics do not come across very "preachy." Many of our songs are about life, struggles, mistakes, relationships and other issues that don't fit entirely in the spiritual category. However, all of these topics are written about through my perspective as a Christian." - Tim Lambesis, As I Lay Dying.

Therefore, for those of you looking for an alternative to the unhealthy negative image promoted by many rock/metal bands, these are some bands worth checking out :
Lifehouse
Creed
Alter Bridge
Fireflight
Anberlin
Switchfoot
Sonicflood
MxPx
P.O.D.
Underoath
Relient K

The more evangelical bands are Hillsong, Planetshakers, and Casting Crowns. These bands are of course more spiritual and have lyrics that directly worship God.

Bottom line is rock/metal music is but a genre that can be enjoyed by everyone and should not be associated to the dark side of life. I mean, why should the devil get all the good music?
